10 Reasons I Think Frozen is Disney’s Best Movie Yet

Yes I know I’m probably going to lose all my readers for saying that I actually agree with Frozen but hey, I’m not in the business to gain readers. My goal is to address controversial subjects and Frozen has diffidently become just that. Before watching the movie I was informed that it was horrible, even worse than Tangled and the songs well, you should never listen to them. frozen2 “…that perfect girl is gone…” can be a highly discriminating sentence but, but what? But for those dots before and after the sentence and the rest of the movie. As Christians we get all worked up when someone takes the Bible out of context and yet we do it with their movies? Aren’t we, out of all people, supposed to be consistent?

For those of you who haven’t seen the movie I’m going to spoil it for you…(keep reading the dots mean there’s more) There’s a young girl who is born with powers, the power to freeze things to be exact. They are fun and enjoyable at first, but than after she hurts her sister a wise troll tells her that her greatest enemy will be fear and that if she can’t control the power she will destroy herself. Her parents then make a decision, a loving but slightly misguided decision. They close her off, from her sister and the rest of the world until she can learn to control the dangerous power. Why I say misguided decision is due to a little rule of physics (well maybe not physics) when you bottle something up for long enough it has to come out one way or another. Well it did, years later at her coronation…yeah not a really great place for it to happen but oh well, it did. She runs away from the castle afraid of hurting more people, and than she sings the song, letting her powers fly, “perfect girl” implies the girl she had to pretend to be, a girl without power.

But now she let it go…but something was happening, and she didn’t see it, there was still an element of fear. After this her sister chases after her to try and talk her back in to coming. But her conversation only creates more fear and Elsa turns her sister away. (By the way her name is Elsa) Anna then goes on to find out an important lesson about fear and the power of love that will play a factor in this race against time, (another side note all their ships are frozen in the harbor, well for that matter everything is frozen in the middle of summer…hence the name ‘frozen’) Elsa’s fear keeps growing and she’s starting to lose control of the powers again. After a fight with some armed men she is captured and taken back to the city she loves. Anna (who’s heart was frozen by Elsa during their conversation on accident) is taken back to the town by a young man from the mountains so that she can be saved by love’s true kiss from her Prince Charming back home.

But than the tables turn when Prince Charming turns out to be the villain, and not only leaves Anna to die but also attempts to kill Elsa. But than the plot comes to a close when Anna gives her life to save her sister. So without further adieu (as I’ve already had my share) my 10 reasons Frozen#1 In the movie not only is family shown as good but also desperately needed. A family is a group of people that love each other and care about each other. Parents are shown as caring people who, although hard sometimes, always do it for your best good. Honoring your parents is proven the wisest course.

“Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.” (Exodus 20:12)

“Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.” (Ephesians 6:1)

Marriage is made for one man and one woman.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” (Genesis 1:27)

And siblings are not two people who hate each other, but two people who would give their lives for each other. (Although the Bible does not specify siblings is does command us to love one another (John 13:34-35) and to love our neighbors (Matt 5:43,44; 19:19; 22:39) nowhere in that does it allow us to hate our brothers or sisters).

Frozen#2

I have to say that my favorite part in the movie was they’re idea of prince charming. Since Disney first introduced Prince Charming in Cinderella it has been a playing factor in all of their movies. Sleeping Beauty, Snow White (which actually came before Cinderella) The Little Mermaid, Pocahontas, The Princess and the Frog, even the Beast from Beauty and the Beast turned out to be perfect after the spell was broken.

But not only did Disney brake their habit of making everything about witchcraft in this movie, they also broke they’re idea of Prince Charming. They swallowed they’re pride and introduced the true side of all Prince Charmings, also known as Prince Perfect.

They just don’t exist. Prince Charmings are people who are out to fulfill they’re own gain and they’re using your vulnerability to get what they want. And they make that statement clear and simple when Anna’s fiance leaves her to die and attempts to kill Elsa so he can own the thrown.

Frozen#3

In the end true love is giving up everything that you want to save someone else. And the biggest sacrifice that anyone can five is their life.

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

There are very few people who would even think this a possibility in today’s world especially (as shown in the movie) when life is at your grasp. But then again you do have to chose between your life and their’s. Who’s would you pick? That’s a good question to ask yourself but I want you to be serious. I mean would you really give up your life to someone who almost killed you twice and tried to have you killed a third time? A person who ran away from you, who blocked you out of her life and didn’t care when your parents died, I mean, would you have even chased after them to bring them home?

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

It’s a question to think on seriously.

Frozen#4

Manhood, oh the word that is missing in the 21st century! People are losing sight of the true meaning of an honorable man, even the word honor has nearly disappeared from our vocabulary.

So what does true manhood look like?

Honoring women in the way they were meant to be honored is one way. Several times throughout the movie this mountain man (who’s far from being the perfect guy) has a chance to be romantic, but is that the way to act with an engaged woman? When Anna needs true love’s kiss to save her instead of kissing her himself Kristoff races off to the castle to take her to Hans. When she’s cold he has a chance to wrap his arms around her, but resists. In the end of the movie when they’re technically boy-friend, girl-friend he still asks her permission to kiss her (something you never see in movies today). And yet again when he had a chance to save himself he puts her first, risking his life to save hers (and that was when he didn’t like her!) I’m so proud of Disney for putting this character in there, a man in all meanings of the word. Not a perfect guy…just an honorable man.

Elsacoronation

Responsibility, another word rarely spoken in America these days especially to teenagers. But in the Bible is was a very common idea even if the word isn’t used.

In 2 Chronicles 24 when seven year old Joash was called upon to be king he did not deny the responsibility but took it and ruled the kingdom. And in Deuteronomy 31 when Moses appoints Joshua to lead Israel he also takes up the command and rules without trying to excuse himself from duty.

And guess what, at eighteen this girl is called upon to become queen! And here’s something I’m sure will surprise you she didn’t turn them down, instead she rose to the occasion to be the leader she knew she had to be.

Even before being asked to be queen when her father asked her to stay away from her sister (her best friend) she realized her responsibility to keep her sister safe and stayed in her locked room with no one to comfort her when she lost her parents, no one to encourage her when she felt weak and afraid.

To keep it short (as I’ve already failed to do) teenagers today run away from responsibility instead of rising to the occasion. Teenagers need to stand up and take responsibility. We talk so much about leaving a great world for our children but never talk about leaving great children for our world. We have to take responsibility for the next generation.

Hansjailed

Bad guys must receive their just punishment.

“For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.” Ecclesiastes 12:14

Hans here get’s to learn his lesson well, getting sent off to his 12 older brother to be punished. I like how in this movie the court of Arendelle does not sentence this foreigner but instead sends him to be judged as he should be by the rulers of his own country. (Who just happen to be his older brothers).

Frozen#7

Repentance in my dictionary means a change of heart along with a change of actions.

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you…” Acts 2:38

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” James 1:22

If Elsa had apologized and than returned to her ice-castle, I would have said that we have some issues there. But she didn’t not only did she clean up her mess but she returned to being queen and learned to use her powers the way they were meant to be used, to bring joy to everyone.

Frozen#8

Womanhood another word we’ve lost the meaning to, oh sure we think we know what we’re talking about when we give long definitions to words but really we’re only causing people to fall to one side or the other. So how does Frozen depict a woman?

Well exactly the same way that the Bible does. We have examples like Rachel and Rebekah who take care of there fathers herds. (Genesis 29:9; Genesis 24:13-14) Like Deborah who leads an army of men to the battle. (Judges 4) Like Jael who drove a tent stake through a man’s temples and won the day. (Judges 4:21)

Anna is a young lady who trusts in the strength in her male friends but when danger comes and they’re unable to help (like when a rock falls on Kristoff and knocks him out while they’re scaling the side of a cliff) she rises to the occasion and does what needs to be done. She respects men and understands her place in the world as a woman.

Even Elsa who is a queen who “rules over them” does not treat any of the men with disgust. Instead she treats them with honor, she even looks to them for strength and even help. A tender touch is not a weak hand but a strong woman. There is a such a beautiful difference between a woman and a man, one is strong and the other is strong but in a different way.

Frozen#9

So if true repentance is changing your actions what is forgiveness? The same thing.

Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.” (Matt 18:21-22)

In the beginning Anna expresses her bitterness towards her sister several times for blocking her out and never opening the door. In the end Anna realizes that understanding her sister is more important and when she does she realizes that Elsa only wanted the best for her. It could have been very easy for Elsa to have bitterness towards her parents for making her stay in that room, but instead she moves on.

Frozen#10

But out of everything you can learn from the movie the overall moral of the film is what I want to stress most.

The phrase they repeated several times over in the film was, “Only true love can melt a heart of fear.” A very similar verse in the Bible states, “…but perfect love casteth out fear…” (1 John 4:18) What is perfect love according to the Bible?

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13) In the “moral scene” everyone is sacrificing. Olaf the snowman almost melts trying to keep Anna next to the fire. Sven the reindeer throws Kristoff off braking ice falling in himself. Kristoff risks his life in the blizzard to save Anna and in the end, when Kristoff is in reach Anna turns and gives her life to save Elsa. Talk about getting your point across.

So there you go..I know you all are going to hit unsubscribe now but I hope maybe you learned something about not pre-judging. Now just a disclaimer here I’m not telling you all to forget what your parents or elders told you (remember last week) I watched this twice with my father’s approval. I still have a huge respect for those people who told me this was a bad movie, but I’ve learned that their words are not scripture. Don’t ever pre-judge we must match everything with scripture. “…let God be true, but every man a liar…” Romans 3:4

Thanks for stopping by…keep fighting for Christ!

    wow.

Ok, now that I’ve got that out of the way, this is an amazing article. I’ve yet to see Frozen as well, and was generally of the mind that it was going to be like the rest of Disney’s more recent films. And from what I’ve heard from a good deal of Christian leaders that I respect, that idea was confirmed. Especially with highly rebellious songs (and highly annoying after being repeated umpteen times) like Let it Go. And while I still think the song, devoid of the rest of the movie, communicates the wrong message, you’ve deftly changed my opinion of the movie, and I’m now looking forward to seeing it! Thank you for putting so much time, thought, and energy into this review, and to help offset all of your presumed un-subscribers, I’ll be subscribing!
