Playing God in a World that Needs the Real Thing

To often when we see our world crumbling around us we point to the unbelievers of this world, we point at the “sinners” (as we call them) and pass the blame as Eve did in the garden. And all the time missing what God has called us to.

The world. How many times have you heard that phrase? In the church it’s used to describe a sect of people who are dead and without God. It’s some place far away and evil. By the time we meet people from the world we’ve ingrained such a disdain for them we either don’t approach them, or we do so in a condescending way.

Here’s what I want to say though. Most of the world has not made it their mission to destroy Christianity, we’re pretty much doing that ourselves, most of the world is in dire need of a savior. And they’re starting to realize it…but when they seek it out, the Christians are off doing they’re own thing. To busy to notice.

I think we’ve lost the meaning of Christianity. It’s caring for orphans and widows, (James 1:27) it’s giving to the poor (Matt 19:21) but most importantly it’s taking dominion over the world. (Gen 1:28; Matt 28:19)

Christians today are so caught up in themselves they trample those who need them most, (Isaiah 10:2) not only the poor but also the lost (Romans 10:14). They need us and we ignore their cries.

We have made a name for ourselves…we’re choppy, inconsistent, make compromises, live one life and preach another. But people aren’t stupid. They can see into our empty shells and this is what they see…

“The right wing conservatives think it’s a decision
And you can be cured with some treatment and religion
Man-made rewiring of a predisposition
Playing God, aw nah here we go
America the brave still fears what we don’t know
And “God loves all his children” is somehow forgotten
But we paraphrase a book written thirty-five-hundred years ago
I don’t know.”

Same Love by Macklemore

You might be saying that the theology in that song is off but guess who taught it? You think they came up with it themselves? No. Churches have become men pleasers. They need to pay the mortgage on their over-sized building so they want to bring people in. They hate being rejected, (of course they do, we all do) but that’s no excuse to change scripture into a flesh pleasing, easy to chew, hunk of old literature. Yes, scripture does say that God loves his children (1 John 3:1) but who His children are, is a question left unanswered.

Scripture tells us that “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” (Romans 8:14) John Gill in his commentary said “Not by the spirit of this world, or of the devil, or by their own spirits: …God leads them from sin, and from a dependence on their own righteousness, in paths they formerly knew not…of righteousness and holiness.” This takes a turning away from sin; it takes a change in their lives. God’s grace is more than a gift it is a price. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says “What? know ye not… ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price.” His son died on the cross, NOT so that we could live in the lust of the flesh, (“If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” 1 John 2:15) but so we could follow Christ’s example and “…work the works of him that sent me, while it is day.” (John 9:4)

Notice the part in the song that says “man-made rewiring,” well that part is correct, because the religion of so many Christians today is not true Christianity. “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.” James 1:27 “For there is no respect of persons with God.” Romans 2:11 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16

For example, where do you get Christians who believe in the big bang? “All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” (John 1:3) “While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth.” (Proverbs 8:26-29) “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) Pretty precise if you ask me.

Or how about Christians who believe that the Old Testament is of no importance? The Old Testament is quoted in the New Testament a total of 855 times! Not only is it important, it is the core to everything a Christian should believe.

What about those who preach you can lose your salvation? “And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.” (John 6:39)

Christians like this are like the Pharisees that the LORD rebuked in Matthew 23:4, “For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.”

Do you want to hear what another secularist thinks about Christianity?

Succinctly put: Western civilization’s survival, including the survival of open secular thought, depends on the continuance within our society of the Judeo-Christian tradition.”

By John D. Steinrucken

I think we’d all agree that Western civilization, specifically America, is not doing well. Our current debt is $17 trillion (Forbes), we’ve aborted 57 million babies (RTLHA), and 293,066  women are sexually assaulted every year (RAINN). So now whose fault do you think it is?  Does God command unbelievers to “Go…and teach all nations” (Matt 28:19)? Does God command unbelievers to “visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction” (James 1:27)? Or how about to “Open thy mouth for the dumb” (Proverbs 31:8)?

No he commands the Christians, the believers, his people, his ambassadors. He commands the churches of America to NOT sit silent while the world crumbles around them.

He commanded all of this of you!
